Dr. Terence K. Leathers
TKLA believes effective mentoring provides youth with direction, support and leadership skills. Mentoring professionals and organizations also need direction in designing training tools that are both culturally sensitive and relevant to the changing times if they are to have successful programs.
TK Leathers and Associates strive to provide customized services that can help each mentoring program find success in its own unique community. TKLA has a wealth of experience working with diverse programs at the local, state and national levels helping build programs and train staff to best deliver services for their youth. TKLA offers proven strategies to assist individuals and groups that wish to build quality programs or improve staff skills. We work with and understand the needs of community based organizations and the faith-based community. We know what works when mentoring our youth and we can help you apply these best practices to your program setting. We offer a range of consulting services, including program planning and design, training workshops on a variety of mentoring topics, and conference keynotes and group presentations.

“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” – Margaret Mead
TK Leathers and Associates has extensive experience in creating custom training curricula for volunteer mentors, parents and community stakeholders covering topics such as violence, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, youth development, communication techniques, conflict resolution, engaging mentoring activities, active listening and trust activities, and working with mentees to set and reach goals. In an effort to address the culture, heritage and history of our youth, we advocate the use of a Rites of passage curriculum. Our Train-the-Trainer sessions will coach your staff in how to deliver the curriculum effectively, as well as how to orient youth and parents into your program.
In order to design an effective program for you, TKLA begins with a needs assessment. The areas that we use as guiding points in our assessment are but are not limited to community needs and gaps, potential partners, program leadership and sustainability. TKLA will facilitate, guide and take you through this process.
In determining program impact, external third party program evaluation consultants are secured to provide formative and summative assessments. Expected outcomes are vetted based on established program goals to ensure effective program design. Through collaboration, appropriate systems are established for data capture, monitoring and reporting.
